Information About Postdoc and Associate Research Scholar Unionization

A group named Princeton University Postdocs and Scholars (PUPS-UAW) filed a petition on April 2, 2024, with the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) to hold an election to determine whether postdocs and associate research scholars should be represented by the International Union, United Automobile, Aerospace and Agricultural Implement Workers of America (“United Auto Workers”). In an election held on May 8 and 9, 2024, postdocs and associate research scholars voted in favor of being represented by PUPS-UAW. Princeton University respects the right of employees to unionize. Prior to the election, the Office of the Dean of the Faculty provided information and resources to postdocs and associate research scholars to make an informed decision about whether or not to choose to be represented by a union. Postdocs and associate research scholars form union at Princeton

In an election held on May 8 and 9, 2024, postdocs and associate research scholars voted in favor of being represented by PUPS-UAW, a union affiliated with the International Union, United Automobile, Aerospace and Agricultural Implement Workers of America (“United Auto Workers”). 

The National Labor Relations Board provided a final confirmation and certification of the election results on May 20. All Princeton postdocs and associate research scholars are now exclusively represented by the union in their dealings with the University concerning the terms and conditions of their employment.

Postdocs and associate research scholars to vote on unionization May 8-9

An election will be held Wednesday, May 8, and Thursday, May 9, at Frist Campus Center to decide whether postdoctoral researchers and associate research scholars at Princeton University will form an employee union, represented by the International Union, United Automobile, Aerospace and Agricultural Implement Workers of America.
