Institutional Payments

Effective January 1, 2020, the option of an Institutional Payment will be limited to visitors in the Visiting Faculty, Visiting Research Scholar, and Visiting Professional Specialist ranks who work for domestic (U.S.) universities that contribute to TIAA. The Institutional Payment is a courtesy arrangement that permits visitors who normally receive retirement contributions through their home institutions to accrue those benefits while visiting Princeton. The Institutional Payment option is not available to visitors who work for international universities or for domestic organizations (other than institutions of higher education) because they do not have home institution TIAA benefits. Visiting Fellow salaries are paid by home institutions, so the Institutional Payment option does not apply.

When employing local residents in countries outside the United States, payment would need to be made either through a local partner or a professional employer organization (PEO) to comply with local labor laws.
